Chanukah
Back in 165 B.C.E., Judah the Macabee and his army battled against the tyrranic Roman legions of Antiochus. Despite being outnumbered, the Jewish army proved victorious. However, upon reclaiming Jerusalem, they found the holy Temple desecrated and defiled - except for one jar of pure olive oil with the seal of the High Priest on it. With this oil, the Menorah was relit. And although the oil was only sufficient for one day, it miraculously lasted eight days. This period of eight days was devoted to the rededication of the Temple. Thus, the holiday received the name Chanukah, from the Hebrew word meaning "dedication".
Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated from sundown, November 28th, 2013 through December 5th, 2013. To all our customers and friends, we wish you a healthy and joyous holiday.
